Zoo where monkeys can feel at home

06 July, 2017

Cartoon: John Sadler

• NEWS of the zoo’s new monkey house (Monkey troop head for a new home in zoo’s Snowdon aviary, June 29) reminds me of a day, years ago, when it had been reported that a monkey had escaped into the park.

That evening as I walked along the Broad Walk in Regent’s Park, I was confronted by a keeper reclining on a seat, with a thick rope suspended from the high enclosure to the park’s footpath. Upon asking him what was happening, he replied: “Oh, I am just waiting for him to come home.”
