Why ruin our unique spa baths?

• THE Porchester Spa baths in Bayswater have been open since 1929 and continue to provide a much-needed space to relax for people of all ages and creeds.
But Westminster Council’s contractors are threatening this important landmark with poor day-to-day management and ill-considered refurbishment plans. In response to a complaint about the cleanliness and maintenance from one local resident, a council officer admitted the team were “failing to deliver the standard expected”.
The community welcome investment to repair the facilities, but the actions of the council and sub-contractors will result in generations of users turning their backs on the baths as important heritage features are axed in favour of identikit spa furniture.
Why turn Porchester, unique in London, into a copy-cat spa the likes of which can already be found across Westminster?
