Voyager – a musical journey to the stars with LSO at the Barbican for all the family

05 July, 2018 — By Sebastian Taylor

Kepler, an interstellar traveller, has beamed herself down to the Barbican Hall. Having found the Voyager space probe and its precious Golden Record, she looks through its contents and explores the great classical masterpieces and their impact on humankind.

Journey to the stars with your seven-to-12 year-olds and with the LSO at the Barbican this Sunday afternoon to help get Kepler home to her distant galaxy.

There’s a space-themed family concert with such items as John Adams’ Short ride in a fast machine and Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets – an audience participation piece.

As well, there’s John Williams’ Flying theme from ET – and extracts from symphonies by Beethoven and Shostakovich.

The concert starts at 2.30pm.

Before then, there are music and singing workshops and drop-in sessions on intergalactic puppet-making, investigating the science of sound and interstellar desert island discs.

• Voyager is at the Barbican Hall on Sunday July 8, 2.30-3.30pm, Tickets from £10 adults, £5 children. www.lso.co.uk/voyager
