The pandemic has exposed bad insurers

‘These insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves’
• OVER the last year we have all heard about and suffered terrible effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
One moment we will never forget as councillors was in the beginning of this crisis listening to businesses tell us (we are all councillors around Archway) how their insurance companies, which they had conscientiously paid over so many years, in some cases were not paying out when the pandemic had closed their business.
Talk about the “wrong sort of snow”! These insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves.
Our small businesses (shops, hairdressers, repairers) do not get big salaries but their services are very much part of the community and some face closure.
Last Friday it took the Supreme Court to find (largely) in favour of small firms receiving payments from business interruption insurance policies.
The insurance companies should be ashamed of themselves. Some businesses will still not get insurance but, thankfully, a few will.
