The homeland for Jews is where they are actually living

10 May, 2019

• I WELCOME Pauline Paucker’s review of Mary Fulbrook’s book about Nazi Germany’s extermination of millions of Jews who had previously lived peaceably alongside non-Jews for years, (The wound that cannot heal, Review, May 2).

This was real anti-Semitism in practice. To use the term today as a political football is an insult to the memory of all those who died.

In 1917 Britain published the Balfour Declaration, which declared that the homeland for the Jews is in Palestine. It made Jews aliens in the countries in which they were living and helped fuel anti-Semitic propaganda.

I am old enough to remember a vibrant Yiddish culture in this country. The homeland for the Jews is where they are actually living.
