Green Day will headline the BST festival in Hyde Park on July 1

IT’S nearly time for the big names to start heading to Hyde Park for this year’s British Summer Time festival, which again keeps its programme wide enough to appeal to the masses – Phil Collins, The Damned, Green Day, Justin Bieber, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the headlining bill is eclectic, and the supports even more so.

But while the names sell tickets, we maintain that the Great Oak stage is the real star of the festival. When used right, like when The Rolling Stones appeared in 2013 against the most dramatic backdrop, or when Blur went all Japanese psychedelia in 2015, the huge rolling backdrop elevates the festival to a different league. We’ve yet to see what’s planned this year but, in the meantime, here’s an abridged round-up of the acts, supports and other entertainment you can expect to find between June 30 and July 9.
