A TEAM of footballers from Haverstock School emulated their Arsenal heroes when they kicked off their season with a nine-goal thriller in the London Schools’ Cup.
The Under-16s boys’ team from the secondary in Chalk Farm found themselves 3-1 down at half-time in their away day against east London’s Langdon Academy.
But showing “great desire and determination” befitting the Gunners’ kits they were wearing, Haverstock mounted a mighty comeback to win 5-4. It took a tremendous team effort to turn the tie around, but there could be little doubt who the man of the match was, with hotshot Dion Sfarca scoring four goals.
“The boys didn’t deserve to be 3-1 down at half-time because they were playing some lovely football,” said manager Jamie Histed after the game. “We showed tremendous team spirit, especially when you think we were 4-2 down with 15 minutes to go.”
