Stokes’s innings has left me stumped!

30 August, 2019

• LIVING legend Ben Stokes has said that he will only take satisfaction from his heroic innings at Headingley if England win the Ashes. What a load of modest hogwash.

It’s hard to argue with a man whose unbeaten 135 led England to such an epic victory over Australia. It’s hard, but not impossible.

There are two Test matches to go and the Ashes are very much hanging in the balance – but I would still forgive any fan who told me that they are not going to bother watching any more cricket this summer. I mean, why should they?

Stokes, no doubt soon to be immortalised in a statue, played his part in the most thrilling World Cup final ever seen, and repeated that feat on Sunday by starring in one of England’s greatest ever victories – not just in cricket, but in any sport.

I don’t know about Ben Stokes but I’m exhausted. I can’t handle any more excitement. Stick a fork in me because I’m done. And I wouldn’t blame anyone who said likewise.
