TWO of Tottenham’s finest did their bit for their countries this week as the battle to qualify for the Euro 2022 Championship intensified.
Hannah Godfrey starred at the heart of Scotland’s defence in a 3-0 win over Albania on Friday.
It was only the 23-year-old’s fourth cap, but skipper Rachel Corsie hailed her contribution to the group before the match in Edinburgh.
“She comes with a lot of confidence,” Corsie told me. “She’s a loud voice, very positive and encouraging, and enjoys being around everyone, and I think that’s important.”
Shelley Kerr’s side were, however, without key players such as Arsenal’s Jen Beattie, Lisa Evans and Kim Little, and subsequently suffered a 1-0 loss to Finland in Helsinki which saw them slip to third in their group.
Spurs club captain Josie Green featured in the second half for Wales as they overcame Faroe Islands 4-0. A 1-0 loss to Norway, though, means that Jayne Ludlow’s side have it all to do in the fight for second spot.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Dutch and German players were able to celebrate, with both nations qualifying after winning their respective groups.
