Sorrowful mysteries at St Dominic’s: second of three ‘Rosary Sonata’ concert

22 February, 2018 — By Sebastian Taylor

This Saturday evening (February 24), violinist Nicolette Moonen and organist Pawel Siwczak are continuing with their performances of Biber’s Rosary Sonatas at St Dominic’s and the Shrine or our Lady of the Rosary, Southampton Road, NW5.

They are playing the second cycle of Biber’s five sonatas, The Sorrowful Mysteries, which are concerned with the death of Christ and the events that surrounded it. Also included in the concert will be Gregorian Chant sung by the Friars of St Dominic’s.

After the concert, which runs for about an hour, the Dominican friars invite the audience for drinks. The concert provides an excellent opportunity to hear the church’s magnificent 1883 Father Willis organ in action.
