A MAYOR of Soho was crowned at a ceremony at Soho Parish School.

Year 4 pupil Stefan Sarenac donned mayoral robes, a frilled collar, tricorne and gold chain in the school’s assembly. Children had been writing their manifestos about what they would do as mayor and Stefan chose fighting air pollution.

The Soho mayor launched the Soho Village Fete on Saturday and was given a range of other rights and privileges, such as freebies from local cafés, businesses and restaurants and the “right to herd camels down Old Compton Street”.

There were gasps from the assembly hall when the actual Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Ian Adams arrived, followed by: “Good afternoon Lord Mayor of Westminster. Good afternoon everyone.”

Three deputy mayors were also chosen: Soho Parish students Stephy Suah, Rudy Baker and Dora Tamman. Cllr Adams (pictured with Stefan) said the event at the school last Friday was “one of the highlights of my mayoral year.”

He added: “I’m sure I’ve got some stiff competition.”
