EVEN the Snow Queen’s heart of ice might have melted thanks to the winning entries of an art competition in her honour.

Pictures by six pupils from Stroud Green primary school will be displayed in the Park Theatre after winning an art competition to celebrate the Finsbury Park theatre’s Christmas show, The Snow Queen. The pictures, made using materials such as ripped paper, glitter and cotton wool, will be displayed in the theatre during the month-long run of the show.

And the competition has inspired artistic ambitions in many of the pupils. Krissy, aged seven, said her grandpa “wants [her] to be an artist”. Meanwhile, Thibaut, 5, was less bashful. When asked if he also wants to be an artist, he replied: “I already am.”

Bartosz Gladkowski won the 5-8 age group while Frido Lawrence won the 9-11 category. Thibaut Penman and Krissy Streete were runners-up in the 5-8 category, while Matilda Torre Bantok and Laura Justice were runners-up in the 9-11 age group.

Organised as a collaborative effort between the theatre, the school and Julie Clare Productions, the judges of the competition said they were bowled over by the artwork.

Jez Bond, judge and artistic director of Park Theatre, said: “It was a tough selection for us as so many young people engaged creatively with the source material.

“The winning pieces are a demonstration of the range of materials used and styles adopted, many of which were superbly inventive.”

The Snow Queen will be at the Park Theatre from December 4 to January 4.
