SENATE House marked Batman’s 80th anniversary by lighting up its exterior with the signature bat symbol.

Christopher Nolan, director of the Batman trilogy, used the 1930s building in two of his movies: the courthouse scene in Batman Begins (2005) and set it as the backdrop for the masquerade in The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

Worldwide celebrations took place on Saturday for the film series, with the University of London’s headquarters in Bloomsbury being the only venue in the UK and Ireland to be involved.

The Art Deco building has been active before. It honoured Mental Health Awareness week last October and had images and lights projected onto its exterior to advertise Richard Branson’s business activities as part of Virgin Money’s campaign ventures.
