LEGENDARY saxophonist Denys Baptiste is bringing his high-octane quartet to Ronnie Scott’s, Soho, on Saturday evening (October 6), playing numbers from his latest album The Late Trane. The album features 10 re-imagined and re-worked compositions from John Coltrane’s late music, the period from 1963 to 1967.

LEONARD Bernstein enthusiast, writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth by putting on Bernstein Revealed – A Cabaret at Pizza Express Holborn this Sunday lunchtime (October 7). Composer, arranger and musical director Jason Carr are joined by West End diva Sophie-Louise Dann will be performing songs from West Side Story, Candide, On the Town and Wonderful Town as well as gorgeous rarities from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and Trouble in Tahiti.

COME & SING the Verdi Requiem at St John’s Smith Square on Saturday evening (October 6) with the Three Choirs Festival and Philharmonia Orchestra. PLAYERS from the New London Wind Ensemble are giving a recital for wind quintet, trombone and piano at Burgh House, Hampstead, next Tuesday evening (October 9). The recital includes music by “birthday composers” Leonard Bernstein and Thea Musgrave. Also being performed is the London premiere of local composer Paul Patterson’s setting of Roald Dahl’s Three Little Pigs for narrator, wind ensemble and piano.
