A MAN mugged and kicked an 87-year-old woman as she came home with shopping.

Collin Reid, 41, grabbed the woman’s trolley bag outside her home in Charing Cross Road having followed her back from the supermarket on a bus from Tottenham Court Road on July 7.

He pleaded guilty to robbery at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday.

Detective Constable James Brooks, from the Metropolitan Police Central West Basic Command, said: “However, although she is on the road to recovery from the injuries inflicted by Reid during the physical attack, the psychological effects of this incident will continue far beyond the healing of her physical injuries.

“I hope that everyone concerned finds some satisfaction in the knowledge that Reid has admitted the offence and he will now pay the penalty for his callous and cowardly actions that he committed in order to steal £60 from a pensioner.”

The Met said that the woman suffered injuries to her arm, knees and back during a struggle for the bag that would not come free.

She was pushed to the ground where she was kicked in the back while trying to break the bag strap.

A witness took a photo of Mr Reid that the police said was “hugely supportive in the case against him”.

Sentencing is on December 22.
