Transport police vehicle was responding to emergency

A POLICE van responding to an emergency has been involved in a crash with a car near Tottenham Court Road.

British Transport Police confirmed their vehicle was in the crash at about 1.30pm today (Wednesday).

No officers were injured but it is understood the driver of the car was taken to hospital. No arrests have been made.

BTP said in a statement: “We can confirm that a British Transport Police vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle at near Tottenham Court Road in London.

“The incident happened at approximately 1.30pm today. No officers were injured.

“The vehicle was responding to a nearby emergency and had light lights illuminated. The circumstances to the collision will be investigated by the Metropolitan Police.”

Traffic built up in the area after the crash but the roads have since reopened.

The Met tweeted: “Please avoid the area around Tottenham Ct Rd station where traffic is heavy due to a collision between a car and a van at 1.30pm.

“LAS [London Ambulance Service] and LFB [London Fire Brigade] also attended the scene. We’re not aware of any serious injury. Cordons are being cleared but it will take some time to return to normal.”
