POLICE have released this CCTV image of a man suspected of threatening a hotel worker with a “zombie” knife after he was reportedly found trying to steal luggage from a store room.
Detectives want to speak to a man who was traced to the left luggage secure room at an upscale hotel in Prince’s Square, Bayswater, by following a trail of crumbs.
Officers believe the suspect had grabbed food and drink left for guests before finding the luggage store and trying to rip open the cases and bags with the blade. A hotel shift worker challenged the man, who had given a false name at reception, but backed off when he was threatened with the knife and told he would be killed. The would-be thief escaped through a fire door, empty-handed. Hundreds of pounds worth of damage was done to the luggage during the incident on June 28.
Detective Constable Kelly Mulder, from Westminster CID, who is leading the investigation, said yesterday (Thursday): “We have spent some months trying unsuccessfully to identify this man through our internal channels and now really need the public to help us. Do you recognise this man? If so please contact us as soon as possible. He has shown he is prepared to use a high level of aggression and an extremely vicious weapon when challenged”
She added: “The victim, who bravely stood up to this man even though he was on his own, had only just recently come to this country for his studies, and has been left very frightened and distressed. He is now anxious whenever he works alone.” l Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting reference CAD1764/29thJune or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
