Parliament Hill are league top dogs

12 May, 2017 — By Steve Barnett

EVEN head coach Scott Cole couldn’t resist diving into the team picture on Saturday after watching his Parliament Hill FC side emerge victorious from an all-Camden title decider in the Camden and Regent’s Park Football Youth League.

The Under-12s side downed local rivals Camden Elite 2-0 in a tightly-fought match at Quintin Kynaston School in St John’s Wood thanks to second half goals from Bobby Webb and Jack O’Donoghue.

The three points meant that Parliament Hill overtook Elite and won the league by just a single point.

It was a fitting triumph for Cole – cousin of West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool and England great Joe – who saw his side go through the entire season unbeaten, winning eight games and drawing one.

While his ecstatic players were singing choruses of “campeones, campeones” in the background after receiving their trophy, Cole said: “The boys have worked hard this season and really deserve this title. I’m so proud of them.

“We’re a new club but I’ve coached some of these boys for four years now and have seen them develop very impressively over that time.

“We have some serious talent in our ranks and we play football the right way, building from the back and relying on individual skill and great teamwork.”

In an entertaining game both teams made their attacking intent clear.

But it was Parliament Hill, previously known as Camden Town Youth FC, who broke the deadlock early in the second half when a smart diagonal pass from winger Ruben Ulloa found Webb. The midfield dynamo unleashed a fierce, low, shot from the edge of the box that neatly nestled in the bottom corner of the net.

Webb then turned from finisher to creator when his knockdown header after a scramble in the area reached striker O’Donoghue, who converted from close range to wrap up an impressive 2-0 victory.
Cole revealed after the game that he now intends to grow the club.

He plans to start Under-7s and Under-8s teams over the summer, and is holding trials, starting this Saturday, at 9.30am behind the Parliament Hill lido. Anyone interested in bringing their child along can contact Cole on 07825 999 030 for details.
