SINGER Paloma Faith praised the “amazing” NHS staff at University College Hospital at the annual UCLH Celebrating Excellence staff awards.
The 36-year-old Brit Award-winning singer – best known for chart-topping hits Only Love Can Hurt Like This and Picking Up The Pieces – hosted the event on Thursday. Ms Faith, who gave birth to her first child at the Euston Road hospital, presented deputy neonatal sister Wendy Hill with the Exceptional Human Being award.
She called her a “beaming light of capability and upbeat positivity”.
She said: “When you have had your first baby… and someone seems to know exactly what to say and how to say it, it’s the best thing in the world.”
Other winners evening included 21-year UCLH veteran Elaine Thorpe, who won the Chairman’s Achievement Award, and Clinical Nurse Specialist, Sally Thorpe, who received the Gwyneth Griffiths Award for top-quality patient care.
The charity received more than 1,000 nominations for the 16 awards. n Pictured:
