Oxford Street pedestrians ignore the dangers

‘How many accidents have occurred to pedestrians crossing Oxford Street when lights are green?’
• PETER Hartley in writing about Oxford Street keeps referring to “…pedestrians being killed and injured…” which could imply deliberate actions by vehicles.
He has stated that it is the responsibility of government to ensure the safety of citizens (Pedestrians first, July 7).
I use Oxford Street regularly both on buses and as a pedestrian. Pedestrians constantly run across the road in front of moving buses and even at pedestrian crossings ignore the red pedestrian lights. In some countries they would be fined for jaywalking.
It would be interesting to know how many accidents have occurred to pedestrians crossing Oxford Street when pedestrian lights are green.
As long as pedestrians take their lives into their own hands by not using green lights at pedestrian crossings accidents will continue, even if all vehicles are diverted.
