MINISTER for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field was touring the Far East this week where he spoke to the Sultan of Perak about efforts to counter illegal wildlife trade.
The Conservative MP for Cities of London and Westminster said he had a “fascinating talk” with His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Shah – a hereditary title stretching back to the early 16th century – who he said was a “tremendous friend of the UK”.
Mr Field also spoke to the governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhammad bin Ibrahim, and other “prominent business leaders” and the chairman of the CIMB Group, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazir.
The foreign office said Mr Field also met senior representatives from leading UK companies in Malaysia to discuss strengthening trade and investment ties between the two countries.
