DETECTIVES working on a murder investigation in Holloway have charged a man.

Sable Thomas, 42, of Dalmeny Road in Holloway, was charged with murder on Wednesday, May 6.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court later today and  and was remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on Monday, May 11.

Police were called at 7:20pm on Monday, May 4 to reports of a man collapsed and suffering a head injury at a house in Dalmeny Road.

Officers and paramedics attended. An 80-year-old man, who has been formally identified as Anthony Rooks, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbours paid tribute to Mr Rooks saying he was a “sociable” guy and a well-known “character” in the street.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “He was a local character. He’s been around for ages. He was a nice old guy. We knew him as Tony and he was always out on his bike.”

Another neighbour, who gave his name as Jam, told the Tribune: “When I moved to this place about 10 years ago he was the first person to come over and say hi. He was a very sociable person. We would always see him around the street riding his bike.

“He liked to fix up things and he would go to the Saturday market in Holloway Road pick things up.”
