‘Mammoth’ clean-up effort after New Year’s Eve celebrations

05 January, 2018

FIFTY trucks and 120 street sweepers cleaned up Westminster after the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Staff at Veolia, the council’s outsourced street cleaning team, finished work around 6.30am.

Last year, more than 85 tonnes of waste was cleared from Westminster’s streets on New Year’s Day, including an estimated 15,000 champagne bottles.

Environment chief Cllr David Harvey said: “I’d like to pay tribute to the work of our waste and recycling teams who work so hard overnight to make sure the streets are clean and ready for the New Year’s Day Parade. It really is a mammoth effort and part of what makes Westminster such a wonderful place to visit.”
