Mayor is looking into residents’ idea
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to rename Latimer Road tube station in memory of Grenfell Tower victims.
The Hammersmith and City line station is the closest to the tower where at least 72 people died in June last year.
A request to change the name has been made to Transport for London and Sadiq Khan appeared to support the idea during an interview on LBC Radio.
The Mayor of London said: “When I was speaking to the family members, what was clear to me was their passion and their keenness to have a fitting tribute. The idea they had and, of course, we’ll consult others – is to rename the station Grenfell.”
Attentions are turning what will happen to the Grenfell Tower site and whether it should be made into a permanent memorial.
