It’s dangerous for walkers in Westminster
03 March, 2017
• FOR pedestrians, the most vulnerable of road users, Westminster is now a very dangerous place.
Figures for 2016 are not yet available, but those for 2010 to 2015 are. These indicate that in 2010 some 29 pedestrians had been hit by cyclists but by 2015 the number had increased to 50, two of whom died.
Also in 2010, 54 pedestrians had been in conflict with taxis and private hire vehicles but by 2015 this figure had nearly doubled to 102, the most casualties of this type ever. After cars, with 156 hitting pedestrians in 2015, taxis and private hire vehicles are the greatest threat to the safety of the walking public in Westminster.
