Pensioners protesting outside the BBC’s Portland Place HQ chanted: ‘No cuts to our TV licences’

ISLINGTON pensioners were at the forefront of a protest on Friday against axing TV licences for the majority of over-75s.

About 50 pensioners, trade union members and community groups gathered outside the BBC HQ in Portland Place chanting “No cuts to our TV licences”.

Dot Gibson, from Islington Pensioners Forum, said: “I’ve come here today on behalf of my neighbours who can’t get out of their house and couldn’t come. They rely on their television set as a window to the word.”

The protest started at the BBC before moving towards Oxford Circus and Regent Street.

Islington Pensioners Forum will now write to Tory leadership contenders Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt asking them what their stance is on the licence cut.
