A BIRTHDAY party was held at an adventure playground after six decades of providing fun for children.
More than 100 people were at the St John’s Wood Adventure Playground in St John’s Terrace to celebrate its 60th birthday, including Westminster North Labour MP Karen Buck. Playground regulars both young and old were there to enjoy games and a disco last Thursday.
Betty Mudpratt, chair of the playground board of trustees, said: “The biggest change from when the playground first opened was that the service it offered was free. Unfortunately this is not the case today and although the charges are minimal and affordable, to some families it is not. We have had our funding cut so have had to raise money for the playground in other ways by hiring it out and applying for fees and grants.”
People from across the generations partied at the playground to show their support, Ms Mudpratt said. She added: “A couple joined us at the party who used the playground 30 years ago and were delighted to find it looked exactly the same as back then”.
