AMBITIOUS teams turned their attention towards the cups at the weekend as fans of the Camden Sunday League witnessed a five-goal thriller, a hat-trick of narrow 1-0 victories, and yet another net-busting display from the free-scoring newcomers.

Striker Julius Patrick scored the only goal of the game as Enate United edged a 1-0 victory over AFC Brasenose in the opening round of the Junior Cup.

The same scoreline was also good enough for Chalk Scratchings, who beat Dinamo Dorigo thanks to a strike from Joseph Dickens.

But yet again, the biggest win of the weekend was notched up by Hackney Wednesday, the top goalscorers in the entire Camden Sunday League.

Mark Smith and Fergus McIntosh scored two goals each, while Ross Gallacher, Thomas Zennith, Rob Lupton and Louis Kwakye also all found the back of the net as Wednesday surely established themselves as favourites to win the Junior Cup with an 8-1 victory over Sherfield Town FC.

The remaining Junior Cup fixture of the weekend saw AFC Shooters beat St Peters 2-1 courtesy of goals from JJ Monserat and Rezenbring Lama.

In the Senior Cup striker Simon Lawrence bagged a brace as The Hurricanes got the better of rivals Clerkenwell Old Boys by the odd goal in five.

Midfielder and club captain Matt Perry was also on target as The Hurricanes edged the topsy-turvy encounter 3-2.

Elsewhere, Auld Shillelagh progressed to the next round of the cup after beating Crouch End Rangers 1-0, while Badu Sports ran out 5-2 winners against Cobden Athletic.
