Westminster warned about show being staged near busy roundabout

A THEATRE tent will be popping up in Marble Arch in April with a new West End musical production.
The 650-seater Spiegeltent venue will take over the island until December. The venue, which was approved by Westminster Council at a planning meeting on Tuesday, will stage the award-winning musical Five Guys Named Moe.
Events company Underbelly, who are behind the theatre plans, had originally proposed to have the tent in Victoria Embankment Gardens but the plans were slated by many critics and later withdrawn. The new plans were viewed more favourably by people in the area, but still drew an objection from the Marylebone Association.
Concerns were also raised about putting a venue in the middle of a busy roundabout and about the importance of protecting open space.
Speaking at his first committee as senior planning chairman, Richard Beddoe said: “The council is committed to bringing exciting events like this to Westminster. Five Guys Named Moe will be a huge draw for the area, generating a terrific atmosphere and giving local businesses a boost.”
An Underbelly spokesman said: “We’re delighted with the planning committee’s decision and we look forward to announcing further information about our plans in the coming weeks.”
