HIGHGATE Harrier Hannah Viner secured the podium place that she has been chasing on Saturday when she won the Fitness First Metropolitan Cross-Country League meet at Wormwood Scrubs.
Competing in the Senior Women’s Division One category, Hannah has recorded second, third and fourth place finishes in her previous three races this season. But in the fourth of five league meets she completed the testing 6km course in just over 22 minutes to finish first out of a record-sized field of 268 runners.
After finishing four seconds ahead of Highgate clubmate Molly Renfer, Hannah said: “It is good to see Molly back as she has not raced since November.
“I was really pleased with my run. I had the strength in the past but not the speed that I have gained through training lately.”
With one race to go, at Trent Park on February 10, the efforts shown by both Highgate’s men and women teams have left the club within touching distance of winning the Howard Williams Senior Cup.
