21 April, 2019 — By Emily Finch

FIREFIGHTERS battled for over an hour to control a fire in a 19-storey block of flats in Finsbury Park today (Sunday).

Around 40 firefighters from Hornsey, Kentish Town, Stoke Newington, Holloway, Tottenham and Islington fire stations attended the fire on the ninth floor of the building in Biggerstaff Street after being called at 1.38pm. The fire was under control at 2.54pm.

There were no reported injuries and ten people had left the building by the time the Brigade arrived. The fire destroyed a balcony between two flats.

Station Manager Brinley Powell who was at the scene said: “The fire affected the external balcony between two flats. Two breathing apparatus crews quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading any further.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation
