Ditch the plastic bags

10 January, 2020

• I DO not understand why so many people continue to use plastic bags while shopping when we are all now aware that we are living through a climate emergency.

Many other countries have banned plastic bags and use paper and compostable bags instead. Why are we so slow and apathetic about change in this country?

We all need to take responsibility for our consumerism and stop using the plastic bags that are still indiscriminately handed out by most retailers, even if you do now have to pay for them.

Surely we must all take our own bags shopping instead. There is no point in ranting about something if you are not going to do anything about it.

I was challenged by my local grocer that I wouldn’t get people to stop using polythene bags until the law changes.

As much as I would love to get the law changed so that plastic bags become a thing of the past, I hope that by adopting new attitudes to our shopping, the plastic bag can become a commodity that is no longer required.

Please support my campaign to conquer our addiction to plastic bags. Cut out this graphic and stick it on your front door to help you remember, or download digital and printable files that you can put up in shops and share on social media at www.bluesunflower.com.

We can all do our bit to help the environment. Small changes add up. Please help spread this message.
