Noel Fielding and Mercedes Grower in Brakes

THIS weekend check out a special screening of actor/director and writer Mercedes Grower’s new film, Brakes.

The cast of this dark comedy includes Mighty Boosh duo Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, Withnail legend Paul McGann and Shallow Grave’s Kerry Fox – as well as the Highgate-based director.

Brakes takes a peek at nine relationships with the starting point being their demise: described as a rock ‘n’ roll black comedy that is like a “Love, Actually, with a death clock”.

The promo bumph says: “A failed relationship is rarely predicted but always reviewed, and the film adopts this reverse narrative. Split into two halves, the film follows the tumultuous stories of nine couples. It plunges straight into the brutal and absurd endings of their relationships, and then travels back in time to the moment when the spark of love between them first emerged. Using London as their matchmaker, each of their stories is unique, yet familiar to us all…”

It will be on a wider release in the future, but you can catch it now at the Loco Film Festival on Saturday evening with a Q&A afterwards.
