Dan Carrier’s movies news: Silver Dream Racer

10 August, 2017 — By Dan Carrier

THE 1970s were ram-jammed with motorbike-based heroes – think Evel Knievel and Barry Sheene – and the popularity of speedway meant it was a decade when two wheels and fat engines had a certain attraction.

For those of you old enough to remember it then, the re-release of the 1979 David Essex film Silver Dream Racer on DVD will be a pleasant way to pass a wet summer afternoon.

Brought to you by Network, who specialise in vintage Britflicks, it stars the singer as hot-headed garage mechanic Nick Freeman, who dreams of stripping off the grease monkey overalls and pulling on some disgusting 1970s all-in-one leather number, emblazoned with fag sponsorship logos, no doubt.

An aside – it also features the wonderful Harry H Corbett of Steptoe fame in what was to be his last screen appearance.
