Curtain up on Opera Holland Park’s summer season

Four new opera productions are being staged in this summer’s Opera Holland Park season, starting with Verdi’s La Traviata next Tuesday evening (May 29). In charge of the staging is international opera director Rodula Gaitanou. Singing Violetta is young soprano Lauren Fagan, a recent graduate of the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker programme. There are 10 performances.
Next, opening on Thursday, May 31, is Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte in a new staging by Oliver Platt, director of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at OHP last year. There are eight performances.
Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos opens on July 17 in a co-production with Scottish Opera. Antony McDonald directs – and there five performances in all.
Last is Pietro Mascagni’s Isabeau, an adaptation of the medieval legend of Lady Godiva. A co-production with New York City Opera, there are five performances.
