Consider the realities of street policing

• NO one wants to see police officers rolling around on the street trying to subdue a struggling individual, of whatever ethnic origin, intent on resisting detention in custody.
But it is ludicrous to assume all these people are innocent martyrs of police brutality and not violent resistants to authority.
Anyone who has experience in trying to cope with an adrenaline-assisted, psychologically pumped-up person, especially one who is fit and strong, knows that it can take a number of officers time and effort in doing so, in circumstances that often present direct personal risk to themselves.
Enrol to do the job, experience the situation, and then speak, assisted by some first-hand knowledge of the realities of street policing.
