The team from Monsoon give us curries to deliver

POPULAR curry house Monsoon Dartmouth Park, teamed up with the New Journal on Monday night to deliver free curries to homes with children who are registered as having free school meals – bringing some welcome joy to kitchen tables amid the coronavirus crisis.

Owner Fozor Ali, from the restaurant in York Rise, said: “We have been here for 21 yers, and we feel so part of this lovely neighbourhood. We know times are hard for many of our friends and customers, and we want to share what we can, do what we can make sure no one feels they are on their own. That is what makes this community, this place such a joy to have a restaurant in – and we will pull together and get through it together.”

The goodie bags included rice, vegetable curry, dal and bhajis – and Mr Ali has vowed to do the same every week, turning Monday night into curry night for those most in need. The New Journal helped out with the deliveries through the evening to make sure they arrived hot for 30 recipients.

One family who received a meal told the New Journal: “Eating there has been a bit of a special treat – so we were so very thankful that the lovely people at Monsoon should show such kindness.”
