Arsenal will travel to Manchester City on June 17
ARSENAL sharpened their skills ahead of the Premier League restart by beating Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium today (Saturday).
The match was played behind closed doors, with the Gunners easing into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Lacazette opened the scoring with a fierce strike from outside the box, before Aubameyang made a trademark darting run from the left flank and curled the ball inside the far post to double the advantage.
Eddie Nketiah stole the show in the second half with a well-taken hat-trick – a clinical display that could earn the young striker a starting berth when Arsenal return to Premier League action away at Manchester City on June 17.
Joe Willock wrapped up the win in the final seconds with a first-time strike into the top-left corner from the edge of the box.
Mikel Arteta went into the friendly against Charlton boasting a near fully fit squad after being handed a series of fitness boosts.
The Gunners boss will have several left-backs at his disposal with both Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney now back in action.
That will allow Bukayo Saka to revert back to his favoured position on the wing, which in turn will free up Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli to play as more direct strikers.
Tough-tackling midfielder Lucas Torreira has also returned to training following an ankle injury he picked up in the FA Cup win over Portsmouth back in early March.
