Camden’s cabinet councillors survive challenge

Top ten hold their places on executive after seeing off challengers

ALL of Camden’s ten cabinet councillors were re-elected to the Town Hall executive last night (Thursday), seeing off three backbench challengers seeking a promotion.

In an internal vote at the ruling Labour group’s annual general meeting, left-wingers Simon Pearson and Ranjit Singh missed out on shaking up the line-up. Samata Khatoon also failed in her bid to earn a place on the cabinet, and in a double blow lost her deputy whip position to Larraine Revah.

Meanwhile, Richard Cotton became the new chair of licensing unopposed. He takes over from Abi Wood, who has stepped down citing changes to her work commitments.

It is the second year the council’s cabinet personnel has remained unchanged after a group AGM. It consists of leader Georgia Gould, deputy Pat Callaghan and Richard Olzewski, Abdul Hai, Angela Mason, Jonathan Simpson, Nadia Shah, Adam Harrison, Meric Apak and Danny Beales.
