Little Venice came alive for the 35th Canalway Cavalcade at the weekend. Hundreds of boats covered in colourful flags packed into the famous section of canal in the annual spectacle.
There was an array of contests including best boat handling, boaters’ Sunday best and best illuminated boat, at the bank holiday extravaganza organised by the Inland Waterways Association.
The theme of this year’s pageant was Waterways Tales – with boaters dressing up as The Ugly Duckling, and Ratty and Toad from The Wind in the Willows.
There was plenty for the whole family to enjoy, from a funfair and a mischievous Punch and Judy show, to a wide selection of tasty food from around the world.
On Sunday an illuminated boat procession set the mood at twilight, and on Monday, prizes for the best boats were handed out.
The event was launched by Lord German who stressed the importance of protecting and restoring the canals.
