Countdown to Christmas begins with festive tombola and champagne

DAME Barbara Windsor began the countdown to Christmas when she switched on the lights at the Marylebone winter fayre.
Crowds assembled on Wednesday night to enjoy stage performances by schoolchildren, international singer Gemma-Louise Doyle and the Haywood Sisters.

There were also stalls selling sweets and treats, and a tombola with gifts including champagne, hampers and vouchers to wine and dine in London restaurants.
Tony Moore, a former member of the band Iron Maiden, excitedly tweeted a photo of himself with actress Dame Barbara, best known for playing Peggy Mitchell in BBC One soap EastEnders and the Carry On films.
The event was organised by the Howard de Walden Estate, which owns and manages a large number of rental properties in the area.
The night was raising funds for School Home Support, working to ensure children from disadvantaged backgrounds are attending and achieving at school.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Ian Adams, tweeted and described the event as “Spectacular”.
