Asagi Nakata – winning prizes and loving Liszt

15 August, 2019 — By Michael White

YOU may never have heard of the young Japanese pianist Asagi Nakata (pictured above), but she was on Radio 3’s In Tune the other day, playing Liszt. And the reason was that this recent graduate from the Royal Academy of Music has just won first prize in the prestigious Liszt Competition, Budapest, which puts her on the map.

It just so happens that she was already booked to play a modest lunchtime concert at the Regent Hall in Oxford Street tomorrow (Friday August 16). And needless to say, the programme is largely Liszt – a composer she says she deeply loves, which is as well because that’s what people will want from her for a while to come.

Hear why she took the prize at 1pm, Friday August 16, Regent Hall, 275 Oxford Street, W1C 2DJ. Free admission – no ticket required. https://www.concert-diary.com/concert/1362493450/Lunchtime-Recital-Asagi-Nakata-piano-
