AN online shopping boom has led to a new 24-hour-a-day post office opening in the West End, bucking a trend of recent closures.

The brand-new counter service will be staffed day and night in the Convenience Store at 71 New Oxford Street.

The Post Office says there is huge demand for “third-party locations” for online shopping collection and returns in places that are “trusted” by the public. It will include postal services, a cash machine and foreign currency exchange.

It will be run by Amarjit Singh Rakhra from the Convenience Store.

Mr Rakhra said: “I’m very pleased to be offering Post Office services from my store – this is an opportunity to provide my customers with a real range of services at a time that suits them, whether that’s early in the morning or late at night.”

The Post Office says online shopping was up 18 per cent on last year and there was huge demand for people to be able to collect packages outside of working hours.
