A NEW technical college that aims to create a new generation of engineers has reached a major milestone. A topping-out ceremony was held at the Sir Simon Milton Foundation Westminster University Technical College on Wednesday, as the £20million building reached its maximum height.

The college in Pimlico for 14- to 19-year-olds will open in September and specialise in technical qualifications in transport, engineering, and construction. Westminster Council leader Nickie Aiken, principal Karen Barker and Cllr Robert Davis, were among those in attendance who to receive an engraved trowel as part of the ceremony.

Work continues on the new college

Ms Barker said: “The Oxford English Dictionary defines an engineer as someone who can ‘skilfully arrange for something to happen’ and this is certainly apt for the whole team who have got the college to this stage.”
